The news came in May of last year that PlayStation and Discord were partnering, with talks of bringing their services together sometime in early 2021. What this means exactly has been left for fans to ponder, but the announcement alone has gotten many fans excited about the possibilities. The PlayStation Store’s September Savings sale offers up to 80% discount on select games for the PS4, PS3, and other Sony devices. Headlining this month’s sale is Activision’s remake of the PS1 classic, Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Chicago’s Amusement Tax isn’t new. The tax was first implemented in the city in 2015, a tax targeted at “patrons of amusement” that specifically included digital services. At the time, the reach of the tax was somewhat limited, focusing on streaming services like Netflix and Spotify, but has since expanded to other services as the legal guidance of the tax grew more established. Sony has avoided the tax requirement so far, though the reasons why are unclear....

In total, there are over 1,800 items on sale as part of the PlayStation Store Holiday Sale, though that includes multiple versions of certain games as well as DLC and microtransaction items. In total, 324 of those listings are for PS5 and 1615 of them are for PS4, with some cross-platform games crossing over between both. For PlayStation VR enthusiasts, there are 74 discounted products, too. Discounts measure anywhere from 5% or 10% off all the way up to 75% off....

Predictably, Sony attempted to spin this announcement into something positive which proved a real challenge. The statement can be found on Game Informer and contains the following, “As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community. PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided to not participate in E3 in 2019....

The Play at Home program started in March to encourage players to stay home during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic by offering free PlayStation games. The games spanned a wide variety, from first-party titles like Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Ratchet and Clank to smash indie hits like The Witness and Subnautica. Most recently, the program allows players to get a free copy of Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition until May 14....

Over the summer, Hypertag Ltd. first put its products on Nintendo posters in movie theaters, offering discounts on the latest Pokemon videogame. Customers point their phones at the posters, download discount codes and use them at electronics stores. Hypertag also plans to stick tags with downloadable ringtones into record stores, and tags with tourism information at bus stops and elsewhere. Other companies are thinking about point-and-click technology. Visa (in Japan) and MasterCard (in Texas) are experimenting with “point-and-pay” phone technology that allows customers to beam their cells at cash registers and immediately charge various products to their credit cards....
