A few months back Sony executive Andrew House told consumers to expect shortages, saying he wasn’t sure Sony could keep up with demand before also speaking on the device’s inception, mirroring much of what Yoshida said. It appears no branch of PlayStation knew what to expect. According to the Bloodberg interview, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. is estimating PlayStation VR will sell at least 1.5 million units this year, far ahead of devices such as the HTC Vibe and Oculus Rift, which could be a simple matter of pricing....

Top seed Pliskova needed just 68 minutes to see off Ajla Tomljanovic, winning 93 per cent of the points on her first serve as she coasted to a 6-3 6-2 triumph. Former world number one Pliskova trailed 2-0 in the second set after losing the first, before rallying to beat Putintseva 4-6 6-3 6-4 at the Queensland Tennis Center on New Year’s Eve. Pliskova, who will be coached by Rennae Stubbs and Conchita Martinez again this season, showed signs of rust in her first match of the year but served 11 aces and the 2017 champion broke the Kazakh four times to progress....
