These stock shortages are being chalked down to the PlayStation VR’s price and release date. With both the Rift and the Vive having been criticized for being too expensive and yet selling phenomenally regardless, the PS VR, which is far cheaper than both of the headsets (even when the PS4 is factored in) could seriously appeal to the more budget conscious gamer. And although the headset’s delay from early 2016 to October 2016 is disappointing, it also puts the PlayStation VR in prime holiday shopping position, as gamers buy the headset as a gift.

Moving forward, the next question people will ask is whether or not Sony can keep up with this demand. Also selling massively are the PlayStation Camera and the PlayStation Move controllers (which are required to play PS VR games) and with sales of the peripherals increasing by over 2000% and 900%, respectively, some are concerned that these will sell out too.
